After weeks of watering and tending to our first harvest our
vegetables are in full bloom! Our mini greenhouse surprised us with tons of
little green seedlings (more than 500 in the first batch) that we decided to
plant another batch!! Now that the land agreement has been finalized and we’re
certain that these plants will have a home… why not?
J And it looks like our first batch is going to be delicious… as we’ve seen proof that caterpillars are enjoying them already! Not to be outshined- our vermicompost is also doing FANTASTIC! We started with 25 worms four months ago and now have over 1000!! Making it one of the most fertile soils on the planet! WOW!
Keeping with the positive energy around us we decided to do
some spring cleaning on the land as well! Our first official clean up day was
on Saturday the 13
th. A few members from HdV got together to collect
trash and debris off the land, move large rocks and concrete off the property,
and remove rubble and waste. The crew worked hard for hours…but there is a lot
more to do. The site used to be old houses that were bought up by the city and
demolished years ago. Unfortunately some of the remains from the houses was
never cleaned up and is still on the property. Looks like there will be many
‘spring cleaning’ days in our near future :)

cuidar a nuestras semillas que
plantamos hace tiempo… nuestras verduras están creciendo!
Nuestro mini invernadero nos sorprendió un día con un montón de pequeñas plantas verdes (más de 500 en la
primera tanda) así que decidimos plantar
otro lote! Ahora que el acuerdo de la tierra ha sido finalizado y estamos seguros de que
estas plantas tendrán una casa ¿por qué no, verdad? J Y parece que nuestro primer grupo va
a ser delicioso... como hemos
visto pruebas de que las orugas
ya están disfrutando de ellos! Nuestro lombricompuest tambien esta de maravilla! Empezamos con 25 lombrices hace cuatro meses...ahora tenemos mas de 1000 lombrices!! WOW!
Siguiendo con la energía positiva que nos rodea estos días nos decidimos también
a hacer una limpieza de primavera
en la tierra! Nuestro primer día oficial de limpieza
era el sábado 13 de abril. Algunos
miembros de HdV se reunieron
para recoger la basura y los escombros
de la tierra, mover grandes rocas y hormigón fuera de la propiedad, y la remoción de escombros y residuos. El equipo trabajó duro por
varias horas... pero hay mucho más que hacer. Nos enteramos que el sitio antes era de casas
antiguas que fueron comprados por
la ciudad y demolidos hace
años. Pero desafortunadamente, algunos
de los restos de las casas nunca fueron limpiados y
siguen en la propiedad. Parece
que habrá mucho mas días de
"limpieza de primavera" en nuestro futuro cercano :)
